{"id":2061,"date":"2014-07-14T09:14:20","date_gmt":"2014-07-14T15:14:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.rootsmagic.com\/?p=2061"},"modified":"2014-07-14T09:14:20","modified_gmt":"2014-07-14T15:14:20","slug":"tip-saving-your-spot-in-rootsmagic-using-bookmarks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/blog.rootsmagic.com\/?p=2061","title":{"rendered":"Tip: Saving Your Spot in RootsMagic Using Bookmarks"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/blog.rootsmagic.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/Bookmarks.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-2074\" alt=\"Bookmarks\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.rootsmagic.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/Bookmarks.jpg\" width=\"396\" height=\"377\" srcset=\"http:\/\/blog.rootsmagic.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/Bookmarks.jpg 566w, http:\/\/blog.rootsmagic.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/Bookmarks-300x285.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 396px) 100vw, 396px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Every person in your family tree is important, right? \u00a0As much as we may hate to admit it, sometimes certain persons are more important than others. \u00a0For example, imagine wandering around through the outskirts of your family tree when you realize it&#8217;s time to shut down for the night. \u00a0You wish there was a way that you could just pick up where you left off the next time you get on&#8230; and there is.<\/p>\n<p>Meet your new friend the &#8220;<strong>Bookmark<\/strong>&#8220;. \u00a0Bookmarks work just like they sound&#8230; highlight a person on any of the main screens, press <strong>Ctrl+B<\/strong> (or do <strong>&#8220;Search &gt; Bookmarks &gt; Bookmark person&#8221;<\/strong> from the menu), and RootsMagic will remember that person for you. \u00a0Any person you bookmark will be listed in the Bookmarks tab of the side list like this&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.rootsmagic.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/Bookmarks2.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2068\" alt=\"Bookmarks\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.rootsmagic.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/Bookmarks2.jpg\" width=\"399\" height=\"474\" srcset=\"http:\/\/blog.rootsmagic.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/Bookmarks2.jpg 399w, http:\/\/blog.rootsmagic.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/Bookmarks2-252x300.jpg 252w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 399px) 100vw, 399px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Just select any bookmark in the list and click <strong>Go<\/strong>, and RootsMagic will jump directly to that person. \u00a0There&#8217;s no limit as to how many bookmarks you create, although if the list gets too long you&#8217;ll want to make sure you read <a title=\"Tip: Find Exactly What You Want with a Few Keystrokes\" href=\"http:\/\/blog.rootsmagic.com\/?p=2050\" target=\"_blank\">last weeks tip on incremental searching<\/a>. \u00a0Your bookmarks are saved with your database so you can keep them as long as you wish, or you can highlight a bookmark in the list and click the <strong>red <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">X<\/span><\/strong> to delete it.<\/p>\n<p>Bookmarks are also great for when you need to temporarily go somewhere else in your tree and be able to quickly return to the current person. \u00a0Just bookmark the person you are on, go do whatever else you need to do in your tree, then quickly jump back to the original bookmarked person.<\/p>\n<p>So remember, while every person in your family tree is important, bookmarks let you mark those that are the most important to you at the time.
