This affects not only RootsMagic 8, but many other products, including some of Microsoft&#8217;s own software.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To be clear:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>This issue only affects RootsMagic 8 (not previous versions) running on Windows 10 with the October 2022 Windows updates.<\/li><li>Windows 7, 8, 11, and macOS are <strong>not<\/strong> affected.<\/li><li>Not everyone who has Windows 10 with the update is affected.<\/li><li>This Windows issue is affecting other software and not just RootsMagic 8.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>If you have Windows 10 and have not yet installed the October 2022 updates, we recommend you hold off on doing so.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Fixing It (Updated)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>If you have Windows 10, have installed the October 2022 updates, and cannot connect to FamilySearch using RootsMagic 8, you have 3 options to resolve the issue:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><strong>Install Microsoft&#8217;s fix<\/strong>. Microsoft has released an emergency fix (<a href=\"https:\/\/support.microsoft.com\/en-us\/topic\/october-17-2022-kb5020435-os-builds-19042-2132-19043-2132-and-19044-2132-out-of-band-243f34de-2f44-4015-a224-1b68a4132ca5\">KB5020435<\/a>) for this issue which can be downloaded and installed from these links:<ul><li>Windows 10 (64-bit): <a href=\"https:\/\/catalog.s.download.windowsupdate.com\/c\/msdownload\/update\/software\/updt\/2022\/10\/windows10.0-kb5020435-x64_c80ba81c2e9c810fed28af5ca133d92a6b52f1dd.msu\">Download Fix<\/a><\/li><li>Windows 10 (32-bit): <a href=\"https:\/\/catalog.s.download.windowsupdate.com\/d\/msdownload\/update\/software\/updt\/2022\/10\/windows10.0-kb5020435-x86_12055c568d21413dc396a638a8a3c66db894a4e9.msu\">Download Fix<\/a><\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><strong>Upgrade to Windows 11<\/strong>. If your computer is compatible with Windows 11, you may upgrade by following <a href=\"https:\/\/support.microsoft.com\/en-us\/windows\/ways-to-install-windows-11-e0edbbfb-cfc5-4011-868b-2ce77ac7c70e\">these instructions<\/a>. Windows 11 does not have this problem, and RootsMagic 8 is compatible with Windows 11.<br><\/li><li>or <strong>Uninstall the October 2022 Update to Windows 10.<\/strong> You may also fix the problem by uninstalling the offending Windows update by following <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bleepingcomputer.com\/news\/microsoft\/how-to-uninstall-windows-10-updates-manually\/\">these instructions<\/a>.
