RootsMagic and Ancestry: Working Together at Last

Search, Sync & Download from Ancestry

Recently, the genealogy world was rocked with the news that Ancestry would be parting with their “Family Tree Maker” (FTM) genealogy software. Thousands of FTM users have since made the switch to RootsMagic. But the question everyone has been asking has been, “Will any other software be able to search and synchronize with Ancestry the same way that Family Tree Maker did?”

Today, we finally have an answer to that question- “Yes!” We’re pleased to announce that we will be working with Ancestry to bring these features to RootsMagic in the near future.

What does this mean for you?

Search, Sync, Import
  1. Search – RootsMagic will be the only software besides FTM to search Ancestry’s extensive collections of historical records from around the world and let you download those records into your own file.
  2. Sync – RootsMagic will be the only software besides FTM to let you share data between your RootsMagic files on your computer with your personal Ancestry online trees. You’ll also be able to download people, events, and even pictures from Ancestry onto your computer through RootsMagic.
  3. Import – RootsMagic will be able to directly import your Family Tree Maker files, without having to go through an intermediate GEDCOM file, giving you the cleanest, most complete transfer of your data. RootsMagic will also be able to download your online trees from Ancestry.

Yes, this is big news and we’re sure you have many questions about it.

Does this mean that Ancestry bought RootsMagic?

No. RootsMagic is still the same independent software maker that we’ve always been. We’ve simply arranged to work with our friends at Ancestry to make this happen; just as we work with FamilySearch, MyHeritage, and other genealogy companies.

Why are RootsMagic and Ancestry working together?

This really is a win-win for both companies and their users. RootsMagic users will have convenient access to Ancestry’s vast collections of trees and records, as well as synchronizing with private online trees. Former Family Tree Maker users will have a path forward, importing their original FTM files while using the Ancestry hints and trees that they’ve come to depend on.

Will I have to buy a new version of RootsMagic to use these features?

If you are using the paid version of RootsMagic 7, these features will be included in a free update to that version.  If you are using a version of RootsMagic older than 7, you will need to purchase an upgrade to 7 to use the features.

When will these features be available?

As is to be expected with something this big, it will not happen overnight. Both Ancestry and RootsMagic are dedicating considerable time and resources to make this happen. We anticipate having many of these features available later this year in an update to our RootsMagic 7 software.

Are you the only other genealogy software working with Ancestry?

Besides Family Tree Maker, yes.

What if I don’t want to upload my data to Ancestry?

Like all of our integrations with other companies, these features are completely optional. You’re free to use or ignore them as you like.

Will I need an Ancestry subscription to use these features?

Use of Ancestry features will require an Ancestry account, even if only as a free Registered Guest. The features and records available to you will depend on your subscription level.

Will I still be able to use RootsMagic to work with FamilySearch, MyHeritage, and other companies?

Of course. This will not affect any existing functionality in the RootsMagic software including sharing data with FamilySearch Family Tree and WebHints. In fact, these relationships give RootsMagic users the ability to access more records from more sources than any other software.

I’m a Family Tree Maker user. Do I have to buy RootsMagic now?

We certainly wouldn’t mind if you did :) But seriously, Ancestry has stated that current versions of Family Tree Maker will work with their services through 2016. So you don’t have to make the switch immediately.

We invite you to look at RootsMagic and its features and, if you like what you see, you’re welcome to make the transition whenever you feel ready. You may be willing to wait until the new Ancestry features are available or you may wish to get started right away. Whenever that time comes, please visit for a special discount and instructions to help you make the change.

Will the sync work exactly like TreeSync in FTM?

Ancestry is working on a new API that both RootsMagic and FTM will be switching to (“API” is a fancy word for the system with which Ancestry can communicate with other products).

The API is still in development, buy syncing in both RootsMagic and FTM will likely be a bit different than the current “TreeSync”.  It will still allow you to share names, events, notes, sources, and even media between RootsMagic and Ancestry.

Thank you for making this happen!! Being able to sync is sooooo important!

Very excited to hear this! Looking forward to version 7!!!

Absolutely thrilled that my favourite software will link with Ancestry. Thank you so much for arranging this. Can I now start asking, “Is it ready yet”? :-)

Looking forward to getting Roots Magic as soon as this new benefit is up and running. I have been preparing my current tree in FTM 2014 for this very reason. I enjoyed the free download except my media did not have my primary photos shown after I transferred my FTM tree to RM. However I noticed that RM jumped right on this issue and provided an update. I’ll be watching closely so I will know when the best time to switch will happen.

Will I be required to take out a membership of MyHeritage if I choose to select their hints for my RootsMagic file?

Bruce Buzbee YOU have gone above and beyond in developing what is needed to pursue our Family History! You deserve more than a bronze plaque in the Genealogy Hall of Fame ! Kudos Sir!

Great move, Bruce & company! Just another reason why RM is consistently rated as the best genealogy software — always improving with the customer in mind. And we are grateful!

Will RM be able to sync with your tree in Ancestry like FTM does where you can click one button and get a complete sync of your whole data base and would it be bi-directional?

Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU!! I am a FTM user who had already decided to switch soon to Roots Magic, after evaluating four or five options. I was really impressed by the Roots Magic software! This is just the icing on the cake. I am THRILLED!

I just tried to transfer my FTM onto RootsMagic 7, however it will only do it for the 2006 version or earlier. Are you going to update so those of us who use versions of Family Tree Maker later than 2006? My version of FTM (version 10) will don’t do a .gedcom. I tried for 4 hrs by letting it just sit there and work. Please Help.

Great news! Thank you RootsMagic and Ancestry!

Great news that RootsMagic will be able to sync with!! Looking forward to seeing how it will work.
I am one of the FTM Mac users who was shocked into buying RootsMagic after news of the FTM demise was posted – and which will now apparently be resurrected.
One of the features I really like in FTM is the integration of the maps feature. I also bought RootsMagic Family Atlas, but I hope that in the future you will consider integrating the two programs.

I don’t understand the transition. Do I download RootsMagic and automatically FTM’s data appears on RootsMagic? Please explain.

This is very welcome news. Thanks to RootsMagic and Ancestry for partnering to make this happen.

Great news! Sounds like the best of all worlds. I have been using RM7 for about a month and a half now and would not want to ever go back to FTM. The ability to automatically access Ancestry directly from RM7 will be the icing on the cake! Thanks, RM owners and staff. You have made my day.

Great news. However, one thing I would love RootsMagic to include when it launches its Ancestry components, is the top-down family view option which Ancestry currently have. The pedigree view is OK, but one gets a better view in general of the tree in the top-down format, showing siblings, parents etc. This is one of the things which long-term Ancestry/FTM users find hard to give up when it comes to alternative software.

This is wonderful news! Thank you!!!

This is wonderful news! I just made the switch to RM the first of the year. Does this mean I’ll have to buy a new version of RM?

I’m still waiting on my RM book to help me figure out how to use RM. Is it coming soon?

That’s fantastic and congratulations! But I’m also rather sad to hear this, because I figure it will delay any progress of a native Mac app. The ported version just doesn’t cut it.

THRILLED!!! So EXCITED!!!! Couldn’t happen to a better company; so happy for you. This news is the best I have heard in ages, not counting grandchildren and greatgrands joining out Family Tree. Bruce, YOU ARE AWESOME as well as all involved. YEA, HotDang and All that. 😉

[…] was thrilled to get the news in my RootsMagic genealogy software program that RootsMagic has partnered with Ancestry to finally connect with their API. What does this mean? Oh, get […]

Oh good.

Elizabeth, that’s the tab labeled ‘Descendants’.

I hope that RM will research “Bugs” and documented problems that Ancestry and FTM don’t.

It depends. Some of their information is free, without a subscription. Some things, like images, require a subscription to view.

you have no idea what a relief that is. I have been working so hard trying to put in information back and forth to keep both trees updated. Roots Magic people you’re the absolute best!!!

Fabulous news! This new partnership will save me countless hours of time, as I use Ancestry extensively. Thank you, Bruce & company!

I have been an FTM users for many years and was devastated when they made their announcement last Dec. But when a door is closed, a window did open. That announcement forced me to look at other software and I chose Roots Magic 7. In the short time that I have been using the software and participating in their Facebook Group I have been very impressed with the knowledge and kindness of everyone. The helpfulness of everyone has been beyond anything I have seen else where. This announcement about being able to merge data found on Ancestry is just icing on the cake. I am so happy to have found Roots Magic and now I have the best of both worlds!
The people at Roots Magic are fantastic!
Thank you for all that you do!

In addition to uploading my RM database, will I be able to download, from Ancestry to RM, changes a family member may make?

This is such great news!! I’m definitely looking forward to this new feature. Do you need someone to help with testing? :)

Yet another reason to make me happy I chose RM rather than one of the other programs I was looking at! Can’t wait to see how it all falls together.

[…] and RootsMagic are teaming up, setting the stage for RootsMagic users to soon be able to search directly via hints. […]

I have used RM since it was on floppy disc! I guess I’ve always known it was the best! Looking forward to exploring with Ancestry.

Hi. I am not a confident backup user of FTM and since the enforced change over to the new style Ancestry I dont know how to export my tree back from where Ive been working in Ancestry to my computer so I will be ready to switch to Roots when I want to…..

Also will all my photos and documents come from Ancestry to RootsMagic?

Will RootsMagic have the ability to turn off family trees like Family Tree Maker does? In FTM I can look for information that is considered most reliable such as Census, Birth, Death, Military….etc… by turning off the family trees.

I was excited and hopeful at the news received today, so I downloaded and tried free version of rootsmagic. Found that it DOES NOT import the full data contained in FTM. Hope full version offered later in the year will contain ALL the data from FTM, otherwise, critical data will be lost by switching to RM. Still hopeful and will give it time, and try again later in the year when RM has had time to develop a product comparable to what FTM offers. With nearly 9000 people in my FTM, it is critically important that I find a comparable product so as not to lose all that data gathered over 20-30 years timeframe. If no comparable product is available, Ancestry has not provided much of a fix to the problem they created. They are a good company, and I would expect that they will do more than just dump the FTM users to an inferior product and call it a “solution.”

I have been using RM since number 3. I knew it wouldn’t be long before Ancestry would see the light and work with RM.
My major concerns are cost and who gets to own all my input. And will I have to keep paying for Ancestry just to access my trees, research and print off documents?
This is a great hobby for young and old but it can get too pricey for most folks.

Awesome! I purchased RootsMagic with no promises but with this hope in mind. I’m so glad I did. Thank you so much for all your work and commitment to make this happen!

My big concern with Ancestry trees is that there are frequently little or no source documents in the trees. This makes the use of the Ancestry trees very questionable. That is one reason that I have stayed away from Ancestry. Can I keep my trees separated from Ancestry after this linking?

I am SO doing the happy dance right now. I wanna kiss whoever made this happen!

I switched to RM with you generous offer to FTM users. I needed to import my file using the gedcom format. This resulted in formatting errors that I am working on now. Would you suggest waiting until the conversion from FTM is available and then import my data from FTM?

Thanks so much from this FTM ex-patriot. My wife & I have our copies of RM7, ready for the big day.

I’m go glad about this, I have loved Roots Magic for years I liked it better the Family Tree, but I used them both so I could enter info to ancestry.

Will there be a Mac version?

I hope that the sync will be across platforms, so it can sync to the Windows version of RM, iOS and Mac when available

I can’t wait for all the new features! I’m so glad you were able to work it a deal with Ancestry. Love RootsMagic.

I just bought RM because of the $20 deal for FTM users. So glad I did !!!

Does RootsMagic work with Windows 10, because Ancestry FamilyTree does not, that is why they dropping FamilytreeMaker because Microsoft have altered so many programmes that used to work on Windows which now don’t under the new Windows 10Karen

This is great news! Will the new program be able to sync with Kindle? Or, is there any way to magnify for the vision impaired?

Likewise with Melissa Holt question…how do I import my FTM files with all media …pictures etc. Please help.

All these developments are wonderful BUT as an AppleMac user I am still (after 2-3 years) still awaiting a full version for RootsMagic for my OS. When is this going to happen? amongst all this excitement don’t forget us Mac folk please!

I echo the others in praising RM for linking with Ancestry. While it can get pricey, expecially with European searches, this is a pairing of the best with the best!
Maybe you can make a deal with ancestry for special pricing for those of us using the full version of RM. :-)
This will be a seamless transfer [in theory] and if so makes it easier to grow the one world tree.

Finally common sense has prevailed over thousands of rabbling nonsense…:)

BRILLIANT NEWS! Thank you roots magic! Love a very keen ancestry family tree maker X

I use Family Tree Maker 2014 and would like to switch to rootsmagic, unfortunately it seems I can’t import my data from FTM 2014 into Rootsmagic.
If this is sorted in a future version then I will most likely switch.

This is definately awesome. Having the ability to get hints and files from the 3 biggest genealogy record sites is going to be great.

Are we there yet? This is wonderful news. Just can’t wait. I’ve been sooo depressed about loosing all the leaves from my tree.

Fantastic! I have been a subscriber to Ancestry since 2000 & also had Roots Magic for many years, this will save me a lot of time transfering data over.

Good news (see #3: “Import”). We will soon have the ability to directly import your FTM 2014 (or older) files.

Believe me, we haven’t forgotten the Mac folk. In fact, we’re among you. Most of our employees have and use Macs now. Work on the native Mac version is definitely still progressing. Thanks for your patience.

Direct import of FTM files is coming in the near future. In the meantime, here is a document showing you how to get your media today:

RootsMagic does indeed work with Windows 10.

RootsMagic currently uses a file format that already is cross-platform. The same file can be viewed on our Windows, Mac, iOS, and Android apps.

Absolutely- syncing with the Ancestry TREES is completely optional. But if you’re interested in source documents, this is great news because you will be able to search and download Ancestry RECORDS as well.

Work on the native Mac version of RootsMagic is ongoing, independent of the Ancestry features.

Congratulations to Ancestry aand RootsMagic for cooperating so that long time users of both company’s products can sync our files. For me this is a 2+2=5 situation.

If you give a family member access to your private Ancestry tree, you will be able to download those changes.

These features are not yet available but are coming. The direct FTM import will be available in the near future. Stay tuned!

If you’re talking a “Kindle Fire”, you can install the RootsMagic android app on your device and load your data onto that. You can also adjust the font sizes/settings in the desktop software by going to Tools > Program Options > Display on the main menu.

The direct FTM file import will be coming in the near future.

Since Ancestry is their own company, we can’t really speak for them, their pricing, or their subscriptions. The Ancestry features in RootsMagic will be completely optional- nothing will be sent to Ancestry without your permission. Any information that you do place on Ancestry will be subject to their user agreement.

Yes. Currently, to get data from newer versions of FTM into RootsMagic, you need to go through an intermediate GEDCOM file, which isn’t 100% perfect. We’ll be adding a direct FTM import in the near future that should preserve all your data.

I am so excited about this. I have been trying out RootsMagic and now it looks like the final step to make the transition smooth! Just waiting for it to be ready to make the final jump!

I am thrilled with this for my own personal trees. :) Thank you!

I have been a FTM user for many years..probably 25. I did take advantage of your offer of software and user manual when FTM announced it’s demise.
I found that the transition process to RM was really simple to accomplish when I used your tutorial. My first transfer of data really showed me that I had some clean up work to do in FTM and my photos transfer was less than perfect. Then came an update to fix the problem.

I dedcided to use my first attempt as a learning lesson and deleted the RM file I created. Now that many of the problems have been addressed I have created a new gedcom and loaded it into RM with few problems. I found that since I wasn’t afraid to delete the RM file that I was unhappy with and reinstall my data that I have been very happy with my decision to change software programs.
Looking forward to the new additional features coming in the future.

THANK YOU for reaching this agreement with Ancestry – very good news!!

It’s a little early in the development process to know all the ins-and-outs like this but we’ll keep that in mind.

The new Ancestry features in RootsMagic will be able to download all your data, photos, and documents.

The RootsMagic Problem Search and Problem Alerts- currently available in the software- will be just as effective on data which RootsMagic pulls down from your Ancestry trees. And don’t forget about the really nice “DataClean” feature in RootsMagic to clean up your names and places.

We expect all these new features to be in a simple update to RootsMagic 7, which you already purchased.

As for the book, you should have received it by now. Contact with your order details and we can investigate that for you.

Yay, Team Bruce! This is great news and I am so happy that more people with find this super company who I have been using since Family Origins. For those new to RootsMagic this company and program is very intuitive, user-friendly, with great customer support, webinars and blogs. Congrats to ancestry for picking a winner.

I always knew that Roots Magic was the best software program out there. Can’t wait to see the new benefits with Ancestry.

Feel like a Buzz groupie. I was so annoyed when Family Origins was not supported and dropped. In part because Buzz had taught me how to think and FTM was different. IMO at that time very sneaky trying to sell me on I have a subscription to Ancestry and love it. But my RM data is my stuff. I consider my Ancestry trees as public and based upon past experience I could lose control of them at any time. I trust Buzz and am looking forward to the new collaboration.

Looking forward to the RM update that incorporates FTM and Ancestry Syncing. I’ve been a long time user of FTM since the 90s. I am concerned with syncing media. Also hope that the date and place data is consistent with standard data in Family Search database. Thanks for working hard to make these improvements for the benefit of your customers.

Thank you so much for making this happen. I just bought your program and I am so excited that eventually it will sinc with

If I buy Roots Magic now, will I need to pay to upgrade to get the Ancestry syncing features?

Reply: If you already have RootsMagic 7 then it will be a free update.
Renee, RootsMagic

Bravo, Mr. Buzbee & RootsMagic! Excellent move for all of us former FTM users.

Looks like I made the right decision to switch to RM over the holidays! :>)
This was the feature I missed most from FTM!
Thanks, Bruce!!!

Ahhhhhh – living proof there is a God!!! :)
Thank you so much for making this happen!

Wonderful news about your new relationship with Ancestry. Would you PLEASE add the ability to “drag” a family tree around on the RootsMagic screen as can be done with FTM! The ability to do that is exceptionally useful. Kids love seeing those relationships which are not obvious to them on the more traditional display you are now using. Thank you and congrats!

YES!!! The best of both worlds, can’t wait to try it out!

Will my family info be available to Ancestry? I choose not to use their site and do not want them to have access to my trees.

Reply: Nothing will be shared unless you decide you want to. You can choose not to use this feature.
Renee, RootsMagic

I have 45,000 people on FTM and Ancestry.
When setting up a rootsmagic family tree website, will our media files (including PDF docs) be transferred automatically? Is this even do-able?

Reply: Only image files will upload to the website. Documents and PDF will not. You do need to select the option to include media files when generating the website.
Renee, RootsMagic

This is great news I have lots of tasks in FTM that I would love to bring across to RootsMagic… lets hope they include this in the direct export from FTM to RM7.

I started out with the program that preceded Roots Magic and then stayed with RM to this day, but I also went with ancestry in the early 90s and have stayed with them ever since
I am very happy to have this new alliance happen. Now linking is a savior to many of us.

I too, was lucky enough to have gambled on the RM7 special discount when the demize of FTM was announced, so I am less than patiently waiting for the new sync feature to become available.

Question for Michael Booth….is their any possibility of being able to sync multiple trees on Ancestry? I have one tree that is getting difficult to manage dhe to its size and would like to splut it but have not because FTM14 can only sync one tree.

Reply: At this point we do not know what capabilities Ancestry will provide us with their API.
Renee, RootsMagic

Why do I have the horrible suspicion that the Ancestry link will only be available with RootsMagic 8 and later which would mean more financial outlay?

Reply: As our article states this will be released in RootsMagic 7. If you already have RootsMagic 7 it will be a free update.
Renee, RootsMagic

Have just started.

Just starting – learning as I go – sounds great!

So excited – I guess Ancestry felt the power of upset people.

I’m sticking with RM. Have had FTM and RM, but use FTM for hints and RM for the real dea.

Thank you this is the best news possible as Ive been using both programs for over 5 years and to be bale to integrate them is suberb well done you.

I am a long time FTM user and one of the Extremely unhappy customers of Ancestry.Com to learn of their less than forward thinking in dropping FTM. I would normally consider staying with FTM as it is being taken over by the original software developers, but have lost faith in the whole process. While Ancestry is a great online source for data I am looking at other programs and have purchased RootsMagic for Mac – the entire bundle. I will be also looking at other software as well.

I have a question for the community and Roots —
If not Ancestry for your web based search and data collection then who else?

Great news!! Thanks for your hard work and for your hard work ahead!!

THANK YOU THANK YOU! Knowing my FT format will be close to the same is fantastic. I just got the download and anxiously looking to continue all my trees and branches going forward.

This is a God send! Thank you Roots Magic! Thank you Ancestry! I belong to both.
Thank you Laura Ellen Buckner Swain for recommending that I use Roots Magic!

Our “Englewood Genealogy Society of Florida” group has also this past week started using RootsMagic 7 in our SIGs. Everyone is still a little nervous but I feel with time most member will learn the new program and let go of FTM.

I am so pleased. I purchased RootsMagic 7 thinking that I would be starting over due to changes that ancestry has made. Excited learn of this when I installed my CD. Thank you.

A very big thank you as the ability to sync was one feature that I have been searching for. I have used RootsMagic for a couple of years, but wished for that feature. I even considered switching to FamilyTreeMaker, but now I’ll be able to use this great feature without switching. Thanks again.

I purchased RootsMagic7 to replace my FTM software. Will I have to pay again for the upgrade later this year to be able to use the new features that work with Ancestry?

Reply: No, this is planned to be released in a RootsMagic 7 update.
Renee, RootsMagic

Bruce, this is great news, and I am glad that my choice made 25+ years ago to go with Family Origins, predecessor to RootsMagic was made. You have outlasted the filtering and shifting of the market place because you make a superior product. Congratulations and Thank You!

Have been using Ancestry since ‘goodness knows when’. Just getting into putting my ‘tree’ on to it.
Have been using RM for ‘goodness knows how long!’ – now I can really get to grips with new projects etc..
Thank you Bruce for such an initiative!
I am only 90, and still have a long way to go!!

So, when will rootsmagic search, sync, and download with FamilySearch the same way it now does with Ancestry?

I purchased & installed RM7 when the initial offer was made. This is great news! Now if RM7 would show relationships like FTM and it had a relationship calculator like FTM it would be even better. Thanks for your efforts.

Fantastic! Need any beta testers? 😉

Please keep me informed on import of FTM to roots.

Great !!!!

Fantastic news – can’t wait

This is great news – I can’t wait until the link with Ancestry is available

This is wonderful news. I had been wishing that I could sync ancestry to my roots magic. Can’t wait for the upgrade.

I have been using Ancestry for a couple years and then I discovered Roots Magic 6 through our local research center, I am so excited to utilize both for my family tree. I love Roots Magic.

I am much more comfortable with RM’s model of assembling information. Repository access is important, but not the core of activity. I switched after Ancestry’s announcement demonstrated they have lost touch with the research process.
Everything about RM is superior, in particular their open communications on what’s happening.
Please continue to stay in touch with the “roots” of genealogy research!!

Thank you for filling the void left by the retirement of Family Tree Maker. I have used FTM for many years and have almost 20,000 people in Ancestry and FTM with many thousands of records and media for them. The December announcement was very upsetting.
I immediately bought several genealogy software packages and after working with them for several weeks find RootsMagic the best solution for me. The one feature of FTM that I find missing is the place view which allows me to see everyone associated with a single place and selecting the individual profiles as needed. I have learned to substitute the RootsMagic List Place report that allows me to see who is associated with a specific place, but unless I am missing something, I cannot format the report into alphabetic order, nor only list individuals w/o every associated event. In addition, I cannot access the individual profiles without going back into the database.
If I am indeed missing a way to do this, please let me know. If not, I would like to put in a plug for including this feature in RootsMagic sometime in the future.
Again, thank you for helping us make this transition.

Reply: Confirming this is on our enhancement request list.
Renee, RootsMagic

I thought I would never see the day.
Now I can suggest other important things for you to work on.

This is awesome and exciting news! Roots Magic has Lisa Louise Cooke of Genealogy Gems to thank for my decision in purchasing Roots Magic. Her enthusiastic support of Roots Magic is unparalleled! I love her Genealogy Gems podcasts and video tutorials!

I have been a RootsMagic/FTM3 (mac)/Ancestry/Family Search user for more years then I can remember…. and have been waiting for this to happen for almost as long. This is very good News can’t wait to be able to do this as soon as I can.
Thanks again Roots Magic for helping get this done for us.

I’m going to be looking forward to direct FTM import, because currently I can only export my file in pieces. (Trying to export the entire file means FTM crashes, every time, with ‘unknown data error’. Ask me why I like RM so much….)

Thank you so very much for this wonderful improvement. I can hardly wait until it arrives!! I LOVE Roots Magic!

I had purchased Rootsmagic7 some time ago but had not installed it. When the announcement was first made, I transferred my FTM 2012 via the gedcom. Everything transferred so smoothly, I thought that I had made a mistake…but no it was all there!! Rootsmagic7 even lets me save my file to the cloud each time I make a change in the file. The confidence of knowing that I have an off-site back up is a huge relief! But I had two FTM files. I transferred the tiny one. I can hardly wait for the software development to transfer the major database (38K files, sources and media).

And what about us Mac users?

Reply: All updates will come out for PC & Mac users at the same time.
Renee, RootsMagic

I am glad that there will be a working arrangement with Ancestry. There has been an enormous investment in my subscriptions with Ancestry over the years (since 1992) and, like others, was less than happy with FTM’s decision!
