We have just released a new update to RootsMagic 4 (version 4.0.6.0). This update adds several new features, plus returns several reports (such as the blank forms) which didn’t make it from v3.
If you have the RootsMagic News screen come up when you start RootsMagic, it may have already notified you of this update. If not, you can do “Help > Check for Updates” from the RootsMagic menu to download and install this update.

Excellent — seems to address a number of items reported and requested by users. You’ve been busy!
I thank you very much for the marriage fact for direct siblings. Now we need to figure out how to show other marriages for direct ancestors. This is very important sometimes to understand will bequeaths, as well as indicate the possibility of half brothers and sisters, which of course is the next thing I would like to see somehow.
Again, thanks for the change!!!
Way to go guys. As always you have added
not only fixes, but necessary function. I have switched to ver 4 for all my data and fine it very usable.
Herb…
Great updates! Thank you.
Thank you for a great program. I wanted to make a suggestion. I would like to see a sort button for individual facts.I would like to group certain facts together, regardless of the date.
Thanks
GOwens
Another great update. It just keeps getting better & better.
Just yesterday I was looking for blank forms for FGS, didn’t know why I couldn’t get them. Now I know. I love RootsMagic! Each version gets better and better! Thanks.
Unbelievably terrific program. Is there an effort by Familyinsight to interact with RM instead of going through a GEDCOM file?
1. I would still like to see the old verion 3 “Place Finder” added back in. It is very handy for finding towns and counties in the states. I have reinstalled version 3 just so I have it handy in my task bar.
2. The Gazetteer works fine for international places.
3.I also think there could be some improvements made in the notes editing part of the program.
4. The indenting of the narrative reports in my option wastes away too much space on large multi-page print outs. I think it would save space, number of pages and ink if all the text was aligned to the left.
5. Reducing the number of pages is important when I have extract a particular family group and convert it into MS Word and the zip the file and email it to some one who does not have or use a gen. program. All email servers have a size limit.
6. I have been doing genealogy for over 35 years so I know what I want out of a software program. So far, of all the ones I have tried out, yours comes the closest.
Thanks for the additions.
The list of additions/fixes looks impressive including a few close to my heart. My only complaint is you released it when I still have 2 weeks vacation left before I can try it (: – Oh Well
RM must be close to fixed now and I can’t wait to get back using it and seeing how the RM team builds on what has the potential to be a world beating genealogy program. Keep em coming….
Thank you for the update. It includes two changes that will help dramatically: The print option on Count Trees and the Submitted status removal. I look forward to more updates in the future. 🙂
I very pleased that a problem I reported has been addressed and appears in the FIXED list. Your company never fails to amaze. Please keep up the good work. Thank you. RM is a terrific program.
I first used RM not long after it came out. Finally upgraded straight to RM4 earlier this year.
RM was great, but version4 is something else, sleeker, smarter, the ability to use it “to-go”.
The mods and fixes just keep coming.
Keep up the brilliant work.
Absolutely fantastic…
Hello folks. I have a problem. When I try to download the RM4.0.6.0 update I receive a Trojan Horse PSW.Banker 5.ZOY alert. Why is that?
AVG just started issuing false positives on a bunch of programs, including ours. There is no trojan. It is a bug in AVGs scanner.
Does the marriage rec# serve as the MRIN number as we were used to in PAF? I used the MRIN number for cross filing purposes.
Bruce. I have been been a loyal customer since FO V.1. RootsMagic 4 is above and beyond any so-called competition. The Tech Support is wonderful. RootMagic is a class act which others could only dream of achieving. Only RootsMagic has the status of being such a powerful program and so easy to use.
Thankyou Bruce!!!!!
I really like RM 4 and have switched all my databases over to it. One suggestion. When you added a new source to RM version 3, you had convenient buttons to italicize, bold and underline text. You don’t have anything similar in RM 4 when using the free form to add new sources. This requires lots of right-clicking on the mouse, which isn’t convenient. If you could add those buttons back in, that would be great. Thanks!
Eileen, yes, the marriage rec# is the same as the MRIN in PAF.
Hi Bruce,
I still can’t figure out where the blank reports can be found. Can you give me a clue? Maybe my download wasn’t complete.
Thanks, Walt
Walt, select the “Reports” category in the report selection screen. Blank reports and Custom reports are in that category.
Will this latest version work on Windows VISTA 64 bit operating system, and will it work on the Windows 7 version released just today. My processor is one of the new 64 bit processors. Will this program work for me ?
Cool! You are the only people I know of that will update things for RM that are important. Keep up the fantastic job. I really like this program.
Great update! Great Program! I struggle with exporting feature though. Creating a Gedcom has only two options: All or pick and choose individuals one by one. I would like the functionality of being able to choose full ancestral lines starting with a select individual so that I can split off specific lines. Right now I am using other software for this feature and importing the files back into RM. It would be nice if I could do it all in RM.
Dee, you don’t have to choose people one by one. On that selection screen click the Mark people button and you can choose ancestral lines, descendant lines, family, selecting by data fields and many other options.
Thanks, Bruce. Many of the items I reported a couple of updates back are now fixed and added back into the program.
I love you Roots Magic! You have a customer for life!
Love the Media Gallery, and have a suggestion – After repairing a broken media link, it would be nice if the window would remain at that link you were last working with, rather than refreshing to the top of the list.
